Ok, so I’m thinking maybe this is supposed to represent Daryl’s choice of two paths.
Descending down in the tunnels = Leah.
Walking towards the windmill/home = Carol
And we all know what he will choose.

Also, the color is the exact same color as the New Mexico State welcome sign. Could be coincidence, but I think it’s a Kang hammer.
